After Sardegna: Kosciuszko still leading in JWRC

After 3 days of real battle on Rally d’Italia Sardegna Michal Kosciuszko and Maciek Szczepaniak took the second place, losing 13,2 sec to the winner Martin Prokop. With 36 points after 4 rallies,  the polish team is still leading in JWRC standings.

The first day of the rally showed that all the juniors were going to fight seriously. After exhausting all day racing Michal took the second place, 15,7 sec after Allessandro Bettega. The level was really flush, all the competitors showed the determination for winning.

Unfortunately the car made some difficulties to Michal – The first part today ment fighting with the car. Suddenly it stopped and we couldn’t turn the engine on again. Then it turned out that the fuel had boiled because of the high temperatures. On the second part we were faster, but still couldn’t find the right setting, so we just had to keep our speed – said Michal after the first day.

The second day was very interesting not only for the spectators, but for the drivers as well – The first stage was really amazing, it took place on a former railway. The rut was very deep, we felt the ground all the time, you didn’t need to brake, the car lost it’s speed itself -  Kosciuszko said. The second stage took place in the wood and the third one was full of spectacular hummock, which made the drivers fly, needless to say to spectator’s enjoyment. On the second day the polish team took the lead, after exciting all day fight with Martin Prokop. Finally, with 16,6 sec lost, Czech was second. Allessandro Bettega, who started the day as a leader, had already more than 11 min lost.

The showdown took place between Michal and Martin on the last day. Until the last seconds polish team was fighting for the victory, but finally Martin was the winner. However, Michal and Maciek are still the leaders in the junior standings. – We have finished the rally and got 8 important points, that reinforce our leadership – Michal said – we were trying to fight with Martin, but this year he was faster. This rally is really difficult, everyone had some adventures during the competition. Anyway, we are glad, that was good rally. The atmosphere was absolutely great! I would like to thank all the fans standing along the ways, despite the hot temperatures and dust. Their support is really important for us!”

The next rally with polish team’s participation is going to take place in Poland, and will be situated on Mazury in a beautiful resort Mikołajki.
